The Russian team performed brilliantly at the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), which took place in China from August 2 to 8, 2025. The team won six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. This result proves that AI for schoolchildren is no longer a distant future, but a real tool for development and competitive advantage.

How the competition took place

The finals featured approximately 300 participants from 61 countries, including Australia, Brazil, the United States, China, Japan, Singapore, and many others. The Olympiad, supported by UNESCO, lasted two days.

The program included team and individual rounds. The students programmed robots and solved challenging problems, demonstrating their knowledge of computer vision, machine learning, and natural language processing. In the team competition, the Russian team placed among the top ten from day one and won silver.

Who won the prize

Gold medals in the individual standings we received:

– Matvey Belyaev, 11th grade — Vladivostok
– Mikhail Vershinin, 10th grade — Novosibirsk
– Timur Garifullin, 11th grade — Ufa
– Danis Dinmukhametov, 11th grade — Moscow
– Oleg Drokanov, 10th grade — Saint Petersburg
– Andrey Khlopotnykh, 11th grade — Saint Petersburg

Silver medal won by Artem Mazur (11th grade, Moscow), bronze — Konstantin Sigalov (11th grade, St. Petersburg).

All prize winners are winners and participants of leading Russian AI competitions: the All-Russian AI Olympiad, the AI Challenge, and others.

How the team prepared

The team’s training was organized by Central University, the AI Alliance, and MIPT. Participants were selected in May at SberUniversity as part of the Northern Eurasia OAI 2025 program.

Leading artificial intelligence specialists from major Russian and international companies and universities participated in the training: Sber, T-Bank, Yandex, VK, MTS, Huawei, Wildberries, HSE, and MIPT.

A customized training program was developed for each participant.

Why is this important for every student

The team’s victory is a clear example of what can be achieved with the effective use of technology in education. Today, neural networks for schoolchildren are available not only to Olympic champions: modern AI tutors and AI-based assistants help students across the country understand complex topics, prepare for exams, and deepen their knowledge of programming and mathematics.

It’s worth noting that this is the second consecutive year that the Russian team has successfully competed at the IOAI: in 2024, at the inaugural Olympiad in Bulgaria, the team took first place in total points among representatives from 39 countries. This year, the number of participating countries increased to 61, and the result remained at the highest level.

The victory of Russian schoolchildren at IOAI-2025 confirms: interest in artificial intelligence among young people in Russia is growing, and the level of training in this area is reaching a global level. Today every student can master AI and related disciplines – programming, mathematics, logic – if they have the right tool nearby.

Vinny is a personal AI tutor for schoolchildren, developed taking into account the requirements of the Russian school curriculum. The platform covers more than 40 subjects and applied areas: from mathematics, physics and computer science to robotics and programming.

The fundamental difference between Vinnie and conventional neural networks for learning is the pedagogical approach: the system does not provide ready-made answers, but consistently leads the student to an independent decision through dialogue and leading questions. The AI tutor remembers individual progress, adapts the difficulty level and is available at any time – including when preparing for the Unified State Exam, Unified State Exam and subject Olympiads.
